DLSU holds unveiling ceremony of National Museum Important Cultural Property marker

De La Salle University held the unveiling ceremony of the National Museum marker declaring the St. La Salle Hall as an Important Cultural Property pursuant to Museum Declaration 1-2018.

Publicly unveiled on September 13 for permanent installation, the site marker was formally turned over by the National Museum of the Philippines and officially accepted by DLSU, whose responsibility is to preserve and maintain the cultural icon.

The National Museum was represented by Deputy Director-General for Administration Atty. Ma. Rosenne Flores-Avila and Ar. Marvin Belgica, Museum Curator, Architectural Arts and Built Heritage Division. DLSU administrators, led by President Br. Bernard Oca FSC, attended the ceremony.

In his message, Br. Bernie noted that while St. La Salle Hall maintains a neo-classical look outside, its interiors feature state-of-the-art facilities and the most modern classrooms. “These characteristics showcase the Institution’s forward-looking spirit and continuing drive to push the boundaries of excellence,” he said.

“St. La Salle Hall represents the gift of Lasallian education, through the lives and communities touched and transformed by De La Salle University and our community members,” he added.

Designed by Tomas Mapúa, St. La Salle Hall was built from 1920 to 1924 on its current location along Taft Avenue. De La Salle College was originally located in Paco, Manila.

In 2007, it was the only Philippine structure to be included in “1001 Buildings You Must See Before You Die: The World’s Architectural Masterpieces” published by Quintessence Editions Ltd.
