The third Social Development Research Center (SDRC) Capacity Building Training series for 2023 was held on 24 February 2023 at J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur. The training was conducted by Department of Sociology and Behavioral Sciences (DSBS) associate professor and SDRC research fellow Dr. Myla M. Arcinas, who spoke on “Writing Research Proposals for Funding.” Her presentation included discussions on (1) defining grant proposal writing and its goal, (2) key elements in writing a strong grant proposal, and (3) research methodology, which presented the differences between qualitative and quantitative research and the use of blended methods in research design in grant proposal writing. In the last part of the training, participants were also given hands-on practice through activities that included providing information for writing an introduction; writing a methods section for the sample proposal; drafting their goals and objectives; drawing up a revenue and expense budget; and using a checklist to finalize their proposal.
Thirty-six (36) participants from four JHCSC campuses attended the training. JHCSC Vice President for Research, Extension and Resource Generation Dr. Jerry B. Superales and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Lina T. Codilla also attended the training. Dr. Arcinas was assisted by SDRC core staff members- Ms. Lyndia P. Navarro and Ms. Maria Catherine D. Domingo.
A campus tour on 25 February 2023 supplemented the training with visits to the JHCSC Pagadian Annex; the main campus in Mati, San Miguel; and the M.S. Canuto Enerio-Lakewood campus.
