De La Salle Philippines (DLSP) affirms its commitment to the mission of improving the quality of education in the Philippines, continuing the Lasallian mission of teaching minds, touching hearts, and transforming lives.
It is in the spirit of faith, service, and communion in mission that we express our full support for the recommendations of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) and the resulting National Education and Workforce Development Plan (2025-2035).
A Turning Point for Philippine Education
The EDCOM 2 Final Report offers a comprehensive, cohesive ten-year roadmap of reforms across DepEd, CHED, and TESDA. We commend EDCOM 2 for this strategic alignment of goals, which will allow the education sector to address the need for accountability and genuine progress amid the growing call for national renewal.
We cite the work of EDCOM 2 in the passage of 10 laws and the filing of 61 policy recommendations and 118 bills. Because of EDCOM 2, we have seen notable structural reforms, which include the establishment of the Education and Workforce Development Group (EWDG) to synchronize policy and the historic increase in the education budget to Php 1.37 trillion (4.5% of GDP) for Fiscal Year 2026.
Aligning Priorities: The Knowledge Ecosystem
The EDCOM 2 recommendations deeply resonate with the priorities of DLSP schools, such as the holistic development of learners, the promotion of accessible quality education, advocating for evidence-based policies that modernize the sector, and serving as a leading resource for national development.
In our pursuit of the Lasallian mission, we highlight an impactful education that transforms individuals, communities, and our society at large. We underscore the development of learners’ critical and creative thinking, as well as the promotion of an inclusive view that enables positive change and creates a just, humane, and loving society.
We also highlight our shared goal of transforming the Philippine knowledge ecosystem in line with sustainable development goals. Together with the Commission, we envision our key role in creating a green knowledge economy, leveraging our research expertise to meet environmental and industrial needs.
In support of the recommendations of EDCOM 2, DLSP is committed to:
- Actionable research: Continue to lead in key research studies specifically designed to address and solve the systemic issues identified by EDCOM 2.
- Enhance accessibility: Make Lasallian education more accessible to a broader demographic of Filipino learners, ensuring that quality, humanistic, and Christian education is a reachable goal.
- Strengthen networks: Continue collaborating with universities in the provinces to facilitate research, training, and capacity-building.
- Localize the SDGs: Expand partnerships with local government units (LGUs) to assist in the localization of UN SDGs.
- Leverage technology: Develop programs such as multimedia projects and short films that humanize the education crisis by sharing the real-life stories of Filipino teachers and students.
- Teacher Training and Professional Development: Conduct case studies to reform teacher education and staffing structures in regional hotspots.
- Engage in active consultation: Remain an active participant in consultations, capacity-building efforts, and training sessions in line with EDCOM 2’s call for a multi-sectoral approach.
Together with the rest of the education sector, De La Salle Philippines rallies behind the EDCOM 2 roadmap towards creating a lasting legacy of excellence for the Filipino learners.
