Lasallian through and through

Atty. Rafael Rodrigo “Digoy” S. Esguerra is one of the first full-blooded Lasallian lawyers. He started his education at the
DeLa Salle Santiago Zobel, from junior prep to high school, earned his bachelor degree at DLSU Manila ( BS Commerce major in Legal Management), and completed the Juris Doctor program, specializing in Human Rights Law, at the DLSU College of Law.

“The experienced professors at the DLSU College of Law, mostly from UP Law when it started out, motivated me to get in here,” Atty Esguerra shared. On a lighter note, he recalled his fondness in attending his classes just wearing shorts and a hoodie, as opposed to other law schools requiring to be in business attire.

His law career started in 2014 as an Associate in a private law office. He also acted as a legal consultant of a manpower services company and eventually landed in the Supreme Court of the Philippines as Court Attorney. He also worked at the Office of the Ombudsman as Graft Investigation & Prosecution Officer before landing in his current assignment as Assistant City Prosecutor in Makati City. “Everyday is a challenge so I just try to overcome them one day at a time. I just try to do what I can to help,” he shared.

“I have been pursuing my career in the prosecution / law enforcement service since I graduated from law school. I put bad people in jail. But what keeps me grounded and helps me balance my life is a famous saying – trabaho lang.  La Salle taught me how to properly associate with different kinds of people in all walks of life. I learned how to adapt myself to every situation,” he added.

For those seeking this noble profession, Atty. Esguerra gave this advice – “keep your head down and stay humbled because when you work in this kind of environment you always have a target behind your back. Be careful and respect the people around you.”
