Webinar on Service-Learning and eSL held for GCOE

De La Salle University remains committed to serve to Church and society. The university continuously seeks creative ways to expose students to social realities. This is crucial amidst current restrictions on mobility and mass gatherings. Service-Learning (SL) or Electronic Service-Learning (eSL) is one effective way to accomplish this. Hence, the Gokongwei College of Engineering (GCOE) and the Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA) organized a webinar on service-learning for GCOE faculty members.

The 3.5 hour webinar entitled, “Basic Concepts in Service-Learning Pedagogy and Syllabus Integration” was conducted via Zoom last August 6, 2021. Ninety-two (92) administrators, curriculum developers, and faculty members from GCOE  participated.

The webinar explained the foundations of DLSU Service-Learning and its Lasallian context.  Moreover, it differentiated service learning from other service activities such as, community service, volunteerism, and internship. Furthermore, eService-Learning concepts and practices were shared. This will help faculty members adapt SL implementation to the “new normal. Finally, concrete steps in SL syllabus integration were explained.

Through this webinar, GCOE service-learning courses will surely sharpen students’ professional readiness, social orientation and community involvement.
